This course is designed for performers, 18 or over, preferably with a Level 3 academic and/or practical training in Musical Theatre singing, acting and dance). It will build your practical performance skills, your understanding of critical theories as applied to performance and knowledge of professional practice within this highly competitive and challenging industry. Classes take place in our professionally-equipped performance and studio facilities.

The course provides high quality practical training that integrates strong academic and theoretical approaches with performance work. The first year focuses on the development of skills and discipline in the ‘triple threat’ style of acting, singing and dance. These skills form a core foundation to theory-led practice, with exploration of practitioners and critical theories supporting the practicality of musical theatre making.

How will I be assessed?
This course is offered in partnership with and validated by Buckinghamshire New University. Assessment is continuous (both formative and summative). Assignments are designed to assess process and performance through: - Observation; Production (in-class and public performance); Written technical journals/process log-books; Academic (research driven) essays.
Demonstrable ability in acting and singing. 80+ UCAS Tariff Score Level 3 (A-Levels/BTEC Extended Diploma) qualification in relevant disciplines. Maths and English GCSE grade C or above. Successful audition and academic interview. Demonstrable ability in dance. Mature students/non-UK students will also be considered on merit of audition in absence of standard qualifications.
A minimum of £100 should be reserved each year for master-classes/theatre trips. A reading list will be supplied and students are expected to purchase the required titles. Rehearsal blacks, dance wear, ballet shoes and Jazz shoes are expected to be worn in classes as appropriate. Scripts and music will need to be purchased as necessary.
Progression to our one year BA (Hons) Musical Theatre course. This course progression will develop those skills necessary for postgraduate professional training and entry to the professional Performing Arts industry.
