Focussing upon the major principles and practices of animal care and welfare, you will be able to start or build on a career in the Animal Care Industry. Level 2 is ideal if you are new to animal care or have some knowledge and basic skills. You want to develop your skills, perhaps to start work in a pet shop, animal shelter or kennel or prepare for further training.

How will I be assessed?
Students will be expected to complete set assignments at home to improve their overall background knowledge.
4 GCSEs at grade 3 / D-E or above, including English, Maths and Science. OR A full Level 1 qualification in an animal-related subject, plus be working at Level 1 in English and Maths.
The course is 12 months, five days a week, including one day at the weekend. 16-18 year olds may be required to take English and Maths classes as part of the course, if they do not have 9-4 / A*-C grade GCSEs. This course can be taken on a part-time basis - this can be discussed after you have applied.
You can progress onto the Level 3 in Animal Care qualification.
Achieving this qualification can help you work in roles such as kennels, catteries, pet shops, zoo keeping, animal welfare, trainee veterinary nurse, veterinary assistant, higher education (e.g. degree courses in animal management), animal conservation.
Costs & funding
16-18 year olds receive fee funding (which does not cover uniform costs). 19+ year olds may qualify for full or partial course fees funding (which will not cover uniform costs), depending on eligibility criteria. Course fees are £780, plus uniform costs. Payment in instalments may be possible, but needs to be agreed in advance. Students will need to purchase uniform and stationery at a cost of approximately £120. During the course there will be the opportunity to attend trips at an approximate cost of £50.
