Acting students to perform The Recruiting Officer by George Farquhar

Acting students to perform The Recruiting Officer by George Farquhar

You are warmly invited to the next Level 3 Acting Show on 21, 22, and 23rd March 2018 at the Amersham Campus. Actors, Live Events & Production, Fashion, Media and Music students are collaborating on this very exciting production.

Irene Rambota, Course Leader for FE Acting, is thrilled by the number of different departments that are working together on this project, five in total. “Acting students have already started to discover wonderful moments in rehearsals, Fashion students have created gorgeous 18th century dresses, a Level 2 Music student is writing the original music for the production, Media students will be filming a performance and Live Events and Production students will be providing magical lights and the set for the actors to tell a beautiful story.”

Set in Shrewsbury during the war of the Spanish Succession, the Recruiting Officer is a cheerfully saucy Restoration romp which shines a light on some unscrupulous methods of army recruitment and other shenanigans. Military and civilian life collide in a fast and furious swashbuckling comedy, first performed in 1706 at Drury Lane. In fact, The Recruiting Officer was one of the most frequently performed plays of the 18th century, presented 447 times between 1706 and 1776.
