Lorraine Hartley is currently studying the second year of her Level 3 extended Diploma in Business. Having completed her AS levels, she decided that she preferred to work by assessments and wanted a fresh start at Aylesbury College.
Lorraine chose to study Business as she felt that it would be a well-rounded subject, with lots of opportunities on the completion of her course. When it came to the Visual Merchandising aspect in the first year of her course, she enjoyed it so much that she decided to pursue it as a career. Lorraine planned to take a specialised course in Visual Merchandising in London on completion of her diploma.
Having previously worked in retail positions she found an opportunity to work assisting the Visual Merchandising Regional Manager for Tommy Hilfiger and applied for the position. Implementing the experience, skills and knowledge learned at College, she successfully interviewed for the role, and is now responsible for the Visual Merchandising of 10 Tommy Hilfiger stores. Currently, Lorraine is working in her new position part-time alongside her studies, and having impressed her manager she has now been offered the position full-time once she completes her course.
Lorraine said “I wouldn’t have got the job without this course, and this is a great first step on the ladder in Visual Merchandising! I’m hoping to work my way up the career ladder, and hope that I’ll be able to continue learning on the job when I finish my course.”
