With three games to spare, Buckinghamshire College Group football team based at Flackwell Heath, are now the Tactic League Central Champions 2017/18 having secured the title after winning 1-0 at West Herts College on Friday 27th April. The team will now progress to the regional play-offs which will involve four regional winners competing for the hallowed crown of Champion of Champions.
“We are really delighted that all of our hard work has paid off this year,”said Peter Scott, Head Coach for the football programme. “The students have been a credit to the college and have worked with determination to make this happen with continued effort to improve throughout the year. We had to play away from home in a tough fixture and the team spirit and hard work of the entire group managed to secure us an important 1 - 0 win.”
The fantastic new 3G pitch has enabled students to carry on training in all weather and their performance on the pitch has been enhanced by dedicated and experienced staff, including former professional footballers with considerable coaching experience.
“The regional play-offs take place on Wednesday 9th May at the home ground at Flackwell Heath and having come so far, the team is very much hoping they can put in the performance of the year to bring home the cup,” added Football coach Tom Hogan. “It will be difficult as we will be up against three other regional winners but irrespective of the result it will have been an extremely positive year.”
The college football coaching scheme is unique in the region and is run in partnership with the Football Association (FA) and delivered by tutors with UEFA A and B coaching licences with a variety of pathways including Level 1 and 2 coaching badges.
