Last term the Foundation Learning students participated in Bowls sessions, held at Aylesbury Town Bowls Club.
Working with Sportivate, both the Skills for Life and Skills for Work students were involved in the programme, which is designed to introduce young people to different types of sport. Although the students needed a little encouragement at first, they soon took to the game and looked forward to their sessions.
Over the course of 7 weeks, students worked with members of the club to learn the tactics of the game, work on their problem solving skills and put into practice their teamwork skills which were learnt throughout the year. The students enjoyed how competitive the game was, and that everybody was able to participate. On the last session one final competition was held, with Jay Parker being crowned the winner, and all students were presented with a medal for their efforts.
Galina Dragomirov, Foundation Learning Tutor, said “The club members were so supportive of the students which was brilliant and the hosts were amazing! Everyone could join in and they were even able to adapt the game for wheelchair use”.
