This Access to Higher Education course will prepare you to study for a degree at university. This is a one-year, Level 3 course specifically designed to enable you to develop the knowledge and study skills to progress into Higher Education in careers such as Social Work, Law, Teaching, Criminology, Psychology and many more exciting career paths.

You may already have some qualifications at GCSE, NVQ, BTEC or A level but not enough to get to university. The Access course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to achieve your goal. You need to be very committed to study and focused on your career choice and we recommend that you do not work more than 16 hours per week in addition to your coursework based studies. You will need to be available 3-4 working days per week for lectures.

  • What will I learn?

    You will be expected to participate fully in all class activities and undertake a considerable amount of independent study. You will learn essay writing, referencing skills, how to debate, analyising and evaluate resource material.

  • How will I be assessed?

    This Diploma is fully assessed by undertaking coursework. Each piece of coursework is graded at either Pass, Merit or Distinction.

  • Entry Requirements

    1 GCSE in English or Maths with the willingness to complete the GCSE in the missing subject. Applicants will take an assessment in reading and writing English and must demonstrate that they are proficient enough in both to benefit from this level 3 course.

    All applicants will be interviewed to ensure that the course is the right choice based on previous educational and work experience. Entry to the course will depend on the outcome of the interview and a satisfactory reference.

    This course is for students aged 19+

  • Progression & Career Opportunities

    Students who successfully complete the course will be awarded an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Health Professions and Social Sciences, accredited by the Open College Network London Region. This qualification will enable you to apply to study for Humanities and Social Science Degrees at British universities. On successful completion of the course, students can progress into Higher Education in careers such as Social Work, Law, Teaching, Criminology, Psychology and many more exciting career paths.

  • Additional Information

    Students who take out an Advanced Learning Loan to fund the Access course will get this loan cleared if they then go on to university and take out a full student loan. If you need help before choosing your course, please contact our Admissions Department or come along to one of our Open Days.
