This qualification is accredited by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) who is the recognised professional body for staff employed in a range of roles in finance and accounting. Members of the AAT are fully qualified accounting technicians.

  • What will I learn?

    You will gain essential skills to start work in an accounting environment. This course is suitable for school leavers with a proven interest in accounts, as well as mature students and those wishing to return to work after a break.

    As part of your Study programme, you will complete a project / Digital Skills and attend Tutorial and Directed Study each week. You will be required to complete work experience in accounting.

    If you are planning on going to University you will have the option to study for the BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Business. This carries additional UCAS points.

  • How will I be assessed?

    Assessment is byexternal on line exams. All of the units within this qualification are mandatory. Four units are assessed individually in end-of-unit assessments (units1,2,3 and 4). This qualification also includes a synoptic assessment that students sit towards the end of the qualification, which draws on and assesses knowledge and understanding from across the qualification (units 1,2 and 3). The results will be graded pass, merit and distinction. All results will be available immediately except for the Foundation Synoptic Assessment and the Using Accounting Software Assessment results which will be available in six weeks.

  • Entry Requirements

    5 GCSEs Grade C/4 and above including English and Math, Good reference / recommendation from School. Students enrolling from other colleges or those who have had a gap year/years in their studies may be expected to complete an entrance exam on Mathematics knowledge.

  • Progression & Career Opportunities

    If you pass the course with an Overall Merit or Distinction, and attend lessons regularly, you would progress to the AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting, subject to your tutor recommendation. You will be able to consider positions within the government sector, banking sector or accountancy practices. There will be opportunities within a number of sectors.

    Skills developed through the qualification can lead to employment as an accounts assistant, an accounts payable and expenses supervisor, an accounts payable clerk, an assistant accountant, an audit trainee, a credit controller, a finance assistant, a finance officer, a payroll supervisor, a professional bookkeeper, a senior bookkeeper, a tax assistant.

  • Cost of Study

    £2500. This course is fully funded for students who are 16-18 years of age.

  • Additional Information

    In order to complete your course, you will be expected to study at home at least 3 hours per week.

    Books will cost approximately £100 per year. You would also be required to become a student member of the awarding body, AAT. ( £44)
