Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Enterprise & Entrepreneurship is a learner-centred, flexible, unit-based structure where theoretical knowledge and practical tasks are applied in project-based assessments. Learners will gain confidence in starting a business, or in working innovatively in an organisation to support growth within it. There is a wide range of engagement with local businesses, learning from other entrepreneurs, learning from their experiences, gaining valuable practical knowledge.
The focus is on holistic development of the practical, interpersonal and thinking skills required to be able to succeed in employment and higher education. This is an excellent foundation providing a wide range of transferable skills such as:
Cognitive and problem-solving skills: use critical thinking, approach non-routine problems by applying expert and creative solutions, use systems and technology
Intrapersonal skills: communicating, working collaboratively, negotiating and influencing, self-presentation
- Interpersonal skills: self-management, adaptability and resilience, self-monitoring and development.
An integral aspect of this course is industry specific work experience. Students engaged in a work based project in their second year and spend a month in industry, thus developing their understanding of an industry, business or service they are interested in.
Students are also provided with the opportunity to gain essential skills for studying at degree level, including: reading technical texts, effective writing, creative development and analytical skills.
Please note that when you apply for this course you will be applying for the first year, which is known as a 90 Credit Diploma. Upon completion of the two-year extended diploma you will have studied the equivalent of 3 A Levels and their associated UCAS value.
What will I learn?
Completing the course with develop your vocational and employability skills. A knowledge and understanding of how business enterprises operate and the skills required to be successful in a range of business fields. In addition, learners can develop the knowledge and skills required for success at higher levels, including: reading technical texts, effective writing and analytical skills, creative development and preparation for assessment methods used in degrees.
This course is a full-time study programme and has been formulated to prepare you for the future. This means as well as studying your chosen course, you'll also work on important skills to help to equip you for your future career. Your study programme will include: Your chosen course, English & Maths and/or subject related IT sessions (Digital Skills), a 45 day subject related work placement (Industry Placement), personal development sessions (Tutorials) and independent study sessions (Directed Study).

How will I be assessed?
The programme is measured by continuous assessment and there will be assignments for each module studied such as coursework e.g. written reports, powerpoint presentations, etc.
A minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grade 4/5+ including English and Maths.
Progression & Career Opportunities
Progression routes can include: Own business, higher apprenticeships and Higher Education courses such as: FdSc Tourism and Enterprise Management, FdA Business and Enterprise, FdSc Enterprise and Small Business Development, HND Enterprise Information Systems. Business career opportunities are diverse and can include: business administration, marketing, accounting, logistics, human resource management, organisational development, sales or enterprise. The qualification also equips students with the skills to enter the selfemployed market as a sole trader or limited company.
Guest speakers, external trips and visits will provide further enrichment on the course. Will involve mandatory visits to a range of business enterprises. A fee of £60 payable for these trips.
