This Level 2 course introduces you to the world of business. It will help you understand how businesses work and how they affect your life and the role you play both as a customer and consumer. You will also look at how to start a small business including developing your own website, and learn about Financial Services and Business Planning. This is a learner-centred, flexible, unit-based structure where theoretical knowledge and practical tasks are applied in project-based assessments.

What will I learn?
This qualification will equip you for a career in a wide range of industries as you gain an in-depth understanding of the business world. You will be able to apply your skills across a number of work related tasks that examine the functions of business organisations.
As part of your Study Programme you will also study GCSE English and maths. In addition, you will attend Tutorials each week. You will also need to complete work experience.
It is an excellent foundation providing a wide range of transferable skills such as:
Cognitive and problem-solving skills: use critical thinking, approach non-routine problems by applying expert and creative solutions, use systems and technology
Intrapersonal skills: communicating, working collaboratively, negotiating and influencing, self-presentation
- Interpersonal skills: self-management, adaptability and resilience, self-monitoring and development.
Success at level 2 could lead directly into employment or an apprenticeship or Level 3 Business, Level 3 Enterprise and Entrepreneurship or an accountancy programme such as AAT.

How will I be assessed?
Each unit is achieved by continuous assessment using assignments which may be presented in a variety of ways, including projects, written work and group or individual presentations. You will have a number of assignments to complete for each unit which are graded either Pass, Merit or Distinction. The Finance and Marketing units are assessed by an external on line exam.

Entry Requirements
A minimum of 4 GCSEs at 3 (D) or above, which need to include English and Maths. Alternatively a level 1 Diploma in Business plus Level 1 Functional skills in English and maths.

Progression & Career Opportunities
If you pass the course with an Overall Merit or Distinction and pass at least 1 GCSE at grade 4 or above you will be able to apply to enrol on the level 3 course. Alternatively, you may wish to look at applying for an apprenticeship in Business administration or Customer Service for example.
You will be able to take up employment in a range of jobs in the public, private and voluntary sectors. These include customer service and marketing, financial services, administration, retail and human resources. Your career prospects will be enhanced by successful work experience during your level 2 course. Your career will also be enhanced by opting to engage in an apprenticeship route or studying at level 3.

Additional Information
You will be required to go on compulsory trips which will enhance your learning. There is a fee attached to this of £80 for the year. This is payable at the start of the course.
In order to complete your course you will be expected to either work in the library when you do not have lectures or spend an additional 4-6 hours per week completing assignments.
