Opened in September 2017, HealthTec is a unique health simulation centre based in the Aylesbury Campus of the Buckinghamshire College Group and in Partnership with Health Education England – Thames Valley. HealthTec provides young people and adults with a practical insight into the 350+ careers available within the NHS and the Health & Social care sector and giving young people and adults the opportunity to experience working in Healthcare scenarios and alongside healthcare professionals.
HealthTec Thames Valley provides immersive and inspirational learning experiences which will:
- Provide young people the opportunity to meet and work alongside clinical and non-clinical staff from the sector
- Provide experiences which follow patient pathways and increase skill levels in basic first aid (including resuscitation)
- Raise awareness of the wide variety of careers with the NHS and social care, with emphasis on roles identified in the local area as priorities for recruitment
- Raise awareness of the educational pathways, including work-based, apprenticeship and higher education
- Inform students to be able to make healthy lifestyle choices
HealthTec Thames Valley can create scenarios to inspire other areas of the curriculum such as creative writing, art, science and many more.
The activities and experiences offered at HealthTec Thames Valley can be linked to all areas of the curriculum and can assist schools in meeting assessment requirements in subjects as diverse as Geography, English, Maths, IT as well as Health and Social Care and Sciences. In addition, attendance at HealthTec Thames Valley will help your school to demonstrate engagement with employers, help meet statutory careers guidance requirements, PSHCE and personal well-being. One visit to Healthtec meets four of the Gatsby Benchmarks.
Healthcare Careers Week
In association with Buckinghamshire Health Trust we are able to provide one week of work experience endorsed by BHT. Based in Aylesbury, students will be exposed to different career routes in the NHS. Gain a recognised First Aid qualification, visit a residential care home and interact with medical professionals at either Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Amersham Hospital or Wycombe Hospital.
Accredited Healthtec First Aid Courses
Emergency First Aid at Work (1 Day) - £80
HealthTec’s Emergency First Aid at Work programme meets the requirements of the Health and Safety Executive for first aiders working in low-risk environments (eg offices, shops, residential care settings etc).
First Aid at Work (3 Day) - £200
The qualification will equip the first aider with skills to be able to confidently undertake emergency first aid if someone becomes ill or injured at work and provide effective care for a wide range of common workplace injuries and illnesses. First Aid at Work training consists of 18 hours of instructor-led tuition, delivered over a minimum of 3 days, with emphasis throughout on practical application of first aid skills. Emergency First Aid for Schools (1 Day) - £80 per delegate (discount for group booking) /
HealthTec’s Emergency First Aid for Schools programme has been specially adapted from the HSE Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course to meet the needs of people who work in a school setting. The extra topics include in the syllabus are Asthma, Allergic Reaction, Resuscitation and choking in children.
This course can be delivered at HealthTec or your chosen venue.
Paediatric First Aid - £120
The HealthTec Paediatric and Early Years course is a 2 day course designed for people who are working, or intend to work in the childcare sector. The programme has been designed to meet with the requirements of OFSTED for Early Years First Aid Provision. Additionally, the programme meets with the recommendations of the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 issued by the Health & Safety Executive for the ‘Appointed Person’.
Basic Life Support (3 hrs) - £18
HealthTec’s Basic Life Support programme has been designed to give members of the community the skills to assist in a life-threatening situation. The course covers rescuer safety, cardiac compression, rescue breaths, community AED and choking.
No previous first aid experience is required. Delegates must be over 14 years old.
Mums and Dads First Aid (3 hrs) - £18.50
This course has been developed to provide the skills required to handle an emergency situation involving babies and toddlers.
The course covers infant and child rescue breaths, cardiac compression, choking and common concerns about head injury and fevers.
No previous first aid experience is required. The course is suitable for parents and grandparents/other family members with childcare responsibilities.
