This course is designed for those seeking to be professionally qualified counsellors and to work towards accreditation with BACP. Please note that this course is not available for students under the age of 19.

What will I learn?
This 2 year intensive course includes: Person-Centred counselling theory in depth. A detailed overview of CBT, Psychodynamic and TA theory. Counselling in a diverse society including equal opportunities, safeguarding, prejudice and discrimination, issues of race, culture, ethnicity, religion, age, gender, sexuality, spirituality and difference.
Students will develop as a counsellor both personally and professionally through in depth practice sessions, linking theory to practice, personal development and an external counselling placement.
The following units will be completed leading to qualified counsellor status and the opportunity to work towards accreditation with BACP:
- Professional organisational issues in counselling
- Counselling in a diverse society
- Advanced Counselling theory
- Advanced Counselling practice
- Self-awareness for Counsellors
- Research methodologies in counselling and a research project
- Counselling placement
Workshops in mental health issues, depression, self-harm, eating disorders, bereavement and loss, creative work and more.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment is a combination of internal assessment by self, peers and tutors and external verifier and external assessment of placement portfolio.

Entry Requirements
Successful completion of ABC Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills or evidence of meeting the equivalent standards and a tutor reference. Tutors must be satisfied about your suitability to undertake a course requiring in-depth study of the philosophies and rationale of counselling. Motivation and commitment to a 450 hour course including practice and individual supervision (reading and the preparation of assessment work are additional).

Progression & Career Opportunities
Successful students will be able to practice as a competent qualified counselling practitioner eligible to start meeting the requirements for full individual accreditation by the BACP. Learners who complete this qualification may progress to higher level courses in counselling studies. Many learners progress towards national accreditation status with professional lead bodies.
