This course is a collaboration with Mission EmployAble, a provider of supported internships.
It provides access to a real working environment where Interns gain employment skills, including catering and hospitality and related transferable skills. Interns are first trained in a local residential facility, transferring later to a purpose-built cafe currently being developed.
You will be instructed and supported by experienced staff, specifically recruited for their knowledge of vocational training and an ability to empathise with our students.

What will I learn?
Each Intern will follow an individual programme of training suited to their needs & expectations.
You can expect topics to be covered such as: Basic food & drink preparation, health & safety, hygiene, customer-relations, core employability skills. Other areas of study may include: skills for employability such as timekeeping, independent travel, team work and rights and responsibilities in the workplace.
Modules may vary each year and between levels of courses - further details can be provided upon application or at open events.

How will I be assessed?
A variety of practical tasks supported by a written portfolio. Each unit is separately assessed.
You will be fully supported in all assessed tasks by ME's experienced staff.

Entry Requirements
Applicants need to be between 18-24 and hold an existing EHCP.
We prefer potential interns to be at Entry Level 2 in Maths and English. You will need to show that you are very interested in obtaining paid employment in the future, and that your family is supporting you.
You should be able to travel independently and be able to work as part of a small team. An interview is required in which you'll be asked to show that you can undertake some basic manual tasks.

Progression & Career Opportunities
At the conclusion of this supported internship, our shared goal is for you to find paid employment with our help. Interns could go on to work in a wide range of industries, including catering, hospitality and related service industries.

Additional Information
This course is a collaboration with Mission EmployAble, a local charity and provider of supported internships. It is based in Chorleywood, on the border between Bucks and Herts.
Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, it is expected that Mission EmployAble interns will be fully compliant with the requirements of a host employer. This will include evidence of full vaccination against the virus. All interns will be required to dress in a professional manner, and a distinctive Mission EmployAble work shirt is provided.
