The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) course is designed for people whose first language is not English and want to improve their spoken and written language skills. This programme is offered at levels of learning that meet the needs of individual students. This course is designed for students who are working towards an Entry 1 to Entry 3 and who are between the ages of 16-18 years.

What will I learn?
You will gain knowledge and understanding in basic vocabulary within English, especially in speaking and listening. You will also be required to complete a Functional Skills maths qualification and external work experience.

How will I be assessed?
You will be expected to do weekly homework. At the end of the course there will be a 30 minute externally assessed oral examination and two externally set and marked written papers, one for reading and one for writing (60 minutes each).

Entry Requirements
There are no academic entry requirements, but you will have an interview to assess your level and then placed in the appropriate group. You must be able to stay in the UK legally for the period of the course.

On successful completion of this course, you will be able to progress to the next level of the course. This qualification will support your opportunities for employment within the UK and/or studying within Further Education.

Additional Information
This course is accredited with the Cambridge Exam Board. You are advised to purchase an English dictionary. This is a part-time evening programme where you will study 2 1/2 hours per week.
