This course is suitable if you have a passion for games, app and new technology creation. How online platforms like Esports are developing. Modelling 3D environments and characters, traditional and motion capture animation, implementing 3D assets into a games engine and creating finalised games as well as developing content for AI and VR.

  • What will I learn?

    You will be looking at the exciting world of games creation and develop the skills needed to create unique content for this ever-evolving area.

    The course is a combination of the theory and practical elements of creating a game. For the theory we will be looking at the developing world of Esports and how the games are design, events set up and streamed and tournaments organised. You will also be looking at the changing world of gaming and evaluating the evolution of VR and AI and how this is influencing game play

    The practical side of the course focuses on 3D games level environment and asset creation and texturing as well as character modelling, rigging and animation, using both traditional methods and motion capture.

    You will be learning visual scripting to understand how assets and characters are imported into a games engine and how to create interactive game play. You will learn how to create content for different gaming platforms and understanding what is required to adapt game to play using VR and AI interfaces.

    This course is focussed on enhancing your creative skills in the theory and practice of game production. It is a combination of theory lessons, assignments and practical workshops. The theory lessons will allow you to understand how games are created and the different audiences that they are aimed at and plan your own development strategies that will allow you to produce unique games. You will be using 2D and 3D design, modelling and animation software as well as the understanding and using games engines.

  • How will I be assessed?

    The course will be completed over two years. Work is assessed by your tutors who will grade your work once it is complete. You will receive regular verbal and written feedback throughout the projects to help you aim for the highest grade possible.

  • Entry Requirements

    A minimum of 4 GCSE passes including English and/or Maths. We are accepting a grade 4 (C) as a pass. Alternatively, we will accept a full Level 2 qualification at Merit grade or above.

  • Progression & Career Opportunities

    There is potential for the qualification to prepare learners for appropriate direct entry to University or employment in a vocationally relevant professional/industry and vocational sector.

    Successful completion will provide access to a wide range of university courses or employment. Career Opportunities include: Games Designer, Games Developer, 3D modeller and animator, Environment Artist.

  • Additional Information

    You will need to pay a studio fee of £220 in Year 1 and £170 in Year 2, this will cover your drawing and illustration equipment and a portable hard drive (500 GB) and any trips, workshops etc that you will take part in during the year.
