This course is suitable if you have a passion for games and app design, games character design and 2D and 3D animation, illustration, 3D modelling and creating your own game. Today, Games designers are often responsible for the overall game concept, planning the story, characters, environments, rules and levels. This course will give you the opportunity to realise your creativity in the exciting world of games design and animation/illustration. You will explore your creative potential in a hands-on environment using our modern computer Suite and using a range of dynamic software applications. In addition to developing your design, art and IT and software development skills this course will provide you with the knowledge and practical skills required to progress into this competitive industry.

What will I learn?
This course is designed to cover all aspects of game design. Starting from the conception of the game with Art and Design and the creation of the story and character you will realise your ideas through a combination of art, digital art, level design. From hand rendered drawings to using graphic tablets for digital illustrating you will design and create 2D and 3D models and environments, animating your own characters and navigating through your own interactive worlds and creating immersive apps.
The course will allow you to tackle motion graphics and video effects. You will also boost your web skills developing interactive applications and online games. In addition the course covers structured drawing development, research and analysis. You will also receive regular tutorials to support your work. This course is focussed on developing your creative skills in the theory and practice of game production. You will learn how to plan, create concepts and structure games through practical workshops and assignments.

How will I be assessed?
Work is assessed by your tutors who will grade your work once it is complete. You will receive regular verbal and written feedback throughout the projects to help you aim for the highest grade possible. This course runs for 1 year Successful completion of year 1 will contain both Award and Diploma qualifications.

Entry Requirements
Minimum achievement 4 GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above, including English or equivalent Functional Skills Literacy qualification.

Progression & Career Opportunities
Progression onto a Level 3 qualification such as the Level 3 Diploma Games Design. Level 3 courses provide a transferrable skills base for preparation for university or working within the creative media industries. Successful completion will provide access to a wide range of university courses or employment. Career Opportunities include: Games Designer, Games Developer, Graphic Designer, Concept Artist and Animator.
