This course is part of the government-backed Lifetime Skills Guarantee scheme, which enables you to retrain, upskill or make a career change thanks to the £95 million National Skills Fund.
This Level 3 course is designed to build on previous learning at Level 2 or for students coming into the sector with an ambition to build a career in the Health and Social Care sector.
What will I learn?
Learners will be required to attend placement in a real work environment to support their learning. The minimum required number of placement hours is 75 hours.
In order to achieve the Technical Level 3 Certificate in Health and Social Care, learners must achieve all internally assessed unit assessments for the nine mandatory units. Learners must also achieve the externally assessed Certificate Assessment (HSC1).
The mandatory units (Group A) provide you with an in-depth knowledge of key subject areas in health and social care. Also included a range of optional units, allowing you to pursue an interest in the specific areas of Social Care, Health Studies.

- Safeguarding in Health and Social Care
- Reflective practice
- Infection prevention and control
- Psychological perspectives in Health and Social Care.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is continuous, based on assignments, practical work and workplace performance.
The formal entry requirements are: a minimum of 4 GCSE passes including English and Maths. We are accepting a grade 4 (C). Alternatively we will accept a full Level 2 qualification at Merit grade or above including GCSE English and maths.
Life and work experience will be taken into consideration for students who do not meet these requirements. Students must be over19 and must NOT have previously attained a level 3 qualification.
Progression & Career Opportunities
You will be able to work in a number of industries, including Nursing, Social Work and Social Care.
There is also an additional fee for the DBS check of approximately £60.
This courses will run from September with taster sessions in June.
