Our Functional Skills English courses are available at three different levels: Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2
Functional Skills is a course that develops practical English skills in employability. This qualification will allow you to develop written and verbal communication skills with a particular focus on writing letters, emails and reports. The course will also develop your reading, spelling, punctuation and grammar skills.

What will I learn?
Reading: Read and understand texts in detail, Use information contained in texts, Identify suitable responses to texts
Writing: Write clearly and concisely, including an appropriate level of detail, Present information in a logical sequence, Use language, format and structure suitable for purpose for purpose and audience, Use correct grammar, spelling and punctuation
Speaking and Listening: Undertake a formal and informal assessment

How will I be assessed?
You will take an exam for each of the three modules: A controlled verbal assessment in the classroom, an examination in reading skills and an examination in writing skills.

A diagnostic assessment will be carried out to determine the most appropriate level for you.

Progression & Career Opportunities
You will be able to progress onto the next level once you have achieved the qualification OR you may progress onto a course that has Entry Criteria for the level of English you have achieved.
This qualification is an essential requirement for many employees and the transferable skills are highly valued in many occupations including Retail, Marketing, Education, Childcare and many more.
