Functional Skills is a practical maths course, designed to help you develop skills that are relevant for everyday life and work.
At Entry Level 3 you will use your knowledge and skills to recognise a simple problem and obtain a solution.
What will I learn?
Within this course you will study a number of topics.
- Using numbers and the number system whole numbers, fractions and decimals
- Using common measures, shape and space
- Handing information and data
How will I be assessed?
The assessment for Entry Level 3 is by two paper exams, calculator and non-calculator.
There are no formal requirements, but the results of initial assessments will be taken into account when deciding on the qualification and level for which the candidate will be entered.
Progression & Career Opportunities
Progression is possible through the Functional Skills levels, ending at Level 2. Level 2 is a recognised qualification by many employers and entry requirement for higher study.

Free for students who do not have a grade C/ 4 at GCSE.
