This course is for any aspiring musician who wants to turn their musical passion into a career. The music industry is worth billions to the UK economy and this course will give you a range of skills to help you progress to university or survive in the music industry. You will learn how to launch your own product, marketing and promoting your band, and experiencing how to perform on stage as a professional musician

  • What will I learn?

    The course focuses on developing a range of skills essential to working in the contemporary music industry, including: Performance you will be part of a band and will get to rehearse in our fully equipped rehearsal studios to prepare live music sets in a style of your bands choosing Recording learn how to use industry standard software (Pro Tools) to record, mix and release your own material Composing & Theory analyse music across a range of modern styles and composing using Logic Pro X Music Industry - Learn how the industry works and how to forge a career in a competitive and diverse environment As well as these, youll be developing your instrumental skills through a range of self-directed methods. Youll also be using a range of sought after skills, such as web design, multimedia and marketing to launch an EP of your bands recordings. Youll also take part in trips and collaborate with other departments in the college on a range of creative projects.

  • How will I be assessed?

    The course is assessed internally and there are no exams like an A Level or GCSE. Instead, you will be asked to submit coursework that might include performances, essays, recordings, journals or video diaries. Performances are usually in local music venues or at the college. Your final grade will be Pass, Merit or Distinction, which is converted into UCAS points.   • Entry Requirements

    Youll need 4 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, one must be English or Maths OR successful completion of a Level 2 qualification including a pass at English and Maths.

    There is no requirement to hold formal music qualifications, but some experience of gigging, or some private lessons would be preferred.

    You will also be required to attend an audition. Your audition will consist of a performance of a piece of your choosing, either solo or to a backing track. You should prepare something which demonstrates your abilities as a musician, not aim to be overly technical.

  • Progression & Career Opportunities

    Many students go on to Higher Education and previous students have gone on to perform in signed bands, set up their own record labels, work as promoters or giving private instrument lessons. Advice and guidance on career opportunities will be given throughout the course.

  • Additional Information

    This course is ideal for singers, guitarists, bass players, drummers, keyboard players and any other instrumentalists from popular music genres, from jazz to metal to indie to rap. You will need some equipment for this course such as headphones, USB storage device, manuscript paper and pens.

    You will also be required to complete work experience on this course, preferably linked to the music industry.

    There are no material costs for this course, however we recommend buying a good pair of headphones and buying spares for your instrument ie drum sticks, guitar strings, plectrums, capo etc
