Are you an Instagram fanatic, interested in Mobile Tech pictures or have a desire to capture life in imagery - then this the course for you. Alongside traditional image making we have included contemporary image capture to start you on your voyage of discovery in the photographic and image producing world. We want you to explore, experiment, test out, investigate and of course enjoy a whole raft of image making techniques using photography and video as the base product

  • What will I learn?

Capturing an image often requires a number of different techniques to ensure you have personalised the product. You will learn some basic darkroom practices, working with light, you also use video, digital imagery, screen print, studio and experimental imagery tasks.

  • Example modules

    • Pinhole Photography
    • Fashion, Hair & Media Makeup Photography (working with internal clients)
    • Taking the perfect picture
    • Photographing Products and Food
    • Videoing for Social Media
    • Looking at Culture and Sub Cultures
    • Iconography.
  • How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through practical assessments, self evaluation and end products using unit criteria to ensure you have collected all the evidence necessary. We use a variety of assessment methods to meet the need of the student which may include video presentation, observation, Q & A or sketchbook work. There is usually a final project at the end of the course which you will be graded on but by then you will be an expert.

  • Entry Requirements

You must have three GCSEs at grade D, preferably in an Art & Design subject and English or maths. Ideally you could bring a portfolio of artwork to the interview and may be asked to sit an initial assessment.

  • Progression & Career Opportunities

Students who complete the course may wish to continue their progression journey onto the next level in Photography or Art & Design or may wish to complete a Level 3 in another subject area. There is plenty of advice and guidance available within the area and at the college to aid students in their progression journey. Many students go on to find careers in Fine Art, Photography, Graphic Design, Fashion, Illustration, Marketing, Photo Journalism, Interior Design, Textiles, Product and Packaging Design, Medical Imaging, Charities or even MI5!

  • Additional Information

Students will be required to purchase a range of art materials throughout the course ie. Sketchbook, pencils, paints and artwork case. A list of recommended materials will be made available during enrolment or induction. There may be a number of trips during the course which students are asked to attend as part of vital research gathering. Details will be made known before any trip takes place.
