This course is for second year students only. You must be an existing student with Buckinghamshire College Group and must be currently studying the first year of this diploma. For new students, please see T Levels.

This is a two-year course, equivalent to three A-levels, which will allow progression to university. This Level 3 course is designed to build on previous learning at Level 2 or for students with an ambition to build a career in the science sector. Please note that when you apply for this course you will be applying for the first year, which is known as a Foundation Diploma.

  • What will I learn?

    General understanding of all the main sciences including practical skills. The important practices and procedures used within a scientific workplace as well as communicating science. You will gain an understanding of planning and carrying out laboratory investigations to correct protocols and analysing and applying mathematical techniques. Year two of this qualification will build on the units you studied in the first year and widen your experience of different aspects of science.

  • How will I be assessed?

    You will be assessed in a variety of methods including assignments, practical assessments, laboratory lab book, controlled assessments and exams.

  • Entry Requirements

    A minimum of 5 GCSE passes including English, Maths and Science. We accept a grade 5(C). Alternatively we will accept a full Level 2 qualification at Distinction grade.

  • Progression & Career Opportunities

    Upon completion of this course you will be able to apply to universities for a range of science based degrees. Previous students from this course have progressed onto degrees in chemistry, biochemistry, optometry, radiography and physics. Alternatively, for those students not wishing to progress to university, comprehensive support is provided to help them find alternatives such as employment or apprenticeships.

    This qualification will help you to either gain employment as a laboratory technician within a variety of industries or go on to university and extend your scientific knowledge.

    You must have a reference from a previous educational establishment and partake in a successful interview.
