Buckinghamshire College Group is able to offer traineeships and we are running courses for those who are 16-23 and not in education or training.
What is a Traineeship?
A traineeship is a Government programme designed to prepare young people for their future careers by helping them to become ‘work-ready’. The traineeships have been developed in response to research showing that young people frequently lack the skills employers expect in the workplace, and often lack the confidence to take that first step.
Traineeships will prepare young people for an apprenticeship or employment by combining work preparation training, maths and English support with a high quality work experience placement. A traineeship can last anything from six weeks up to a maximum of six months, with the content tailored to meet individual needs.
Who are they for?
Traineeships are for young people aged 16 to 23 inclusive, or those with a Learning Difficulty Assessment up to academic age 25, who are motivated to work but who have been unsuccessful in securing an apprenticeship or other job due to a lack of skills and/or experience.
Young people aged 16-18 and qualified below Level 3 (equivalent to two or more A-Level passes), or those aged 19-23 and qualified below Level 2 (equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C) could be eligible for a traineeship if they are unemployed, or work fewer than 16 hours per week, and have little work experience.
Benefits
Traineeships are intended to help young people gain the work preparation training, maths and English and work experience needed to get an apprenticeship or other job. Upon successfully completing a traineeship, a young person is expected to be ready for the world of work.
After their traineeship comes to an end, each young person will be guaranteed a job interview if a role becomes available, or an exit interview and a reference from the company providing the work experience placement. A successful job interview will mean that the young person can move into a job or apprenticeship straight away with the company who provided their traineeship.
