At college we mostly use Microsoft services, such as Outlook for our emails, OneDrive for our online file storage and Microsoft Teams for communication. Every student is provided with a college Microsoft account and can access all of these systems in college and at home.
Microsoft Teams Education
We use Microsoft Teams as our main learning and communication tool. This means students will be given access to their course on Microsoft Teams where their tutor will share learning resources, assignments, and course news.
Microsoft Teams is also the place they will find their timetable which is automatically updated. Microsoft Teams is a great way to communicate with your tutor if you need to ask for help.
We are currently developing our own AI assisted chatbot which helps students with simple queries which we plan on launching soon.
Student Space
Student Space is the hub for all the information you need about college once you are a student. The homepage of Student Space contains links to key systems students will need such as their email and E-ILP. It also is where they will find college news, policies and information.
E-ILP
A student’s E-ILP is the place where they can access their data and find out how they are progressing at college. Students will find information about their Attendance, Grades and Targets.
For students joining the college aged under 19 on the 31st August, their parents or carers will be provided with access to our Parent Portal, where the same data is shared.
Apprenticeships
Apprentices at the college benefit from all the systems already detailed but also make use of OneFile. This platform is specially designed for the workplace and is used by our Apprentices to gather learning evidence and communicate with their assessor.
Devices
We encourage all students to bring their own laptop to college to enhance their learning. Those bringing their own laptop will be granted access to our fast WIFI network and will be able to use all our college systems in any up-to-date web browser.
In college you will find we have invested in a huge variety of high specification technology found in every area.
To prepare for work, we make use of over 50 VR Headsets to give our students immersive experiences which simulate workplace environments.
In Health and Care, we have several industry leading robotic mannequins which allow students to practice treating patients.
In Creative, we have ensured our students have access to the right software for their course, such as Adobe Creative Cloud software.
We have a Learning Centre on each of our campuses which have computers and printers to help students complete their work in a focused and supportive environment.
Accessibility
We strongly believe in ensuring everyone can access the technology they need and use it in a way that suits them. We are members of “Access and Assistance for All”, a campaign led by students which aims to improve access to assistive technology in further education colleges.
We have ensured that all students can make use of assistive technology tools built into college devices, software and systems and have ensured our educators know how to assist. These include being able to adjust text, fonts and colours as well as make use of reading and transcription tools. Further, we have begun to raise awareness of educators in making accessible resources for their students. Those students who join us who may need additional hardware or software such as adapted keyboards or screen-readers will find they have access to these too through the college’s Learning Support team.
