What transport options are available for getting to college?
Buckinghamshire College Group operates several bus and minibus routes connecting its campuses (Aylesbury, Wycombe and Amersham). Student Services will be able to provide further information on this. The Aylesbury and Amersham Campus can be accessed via local bus routes and trains. Wycombe Campus can be accessed via a bus route from High Wycombe town centre. Additional support and discounted travel options may be available for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Some students with an EHCP may be able to access taxi services through the Local Authority. - Do college students have holiday breaks like in school?
Do college students have holiday breaks like in school?
Yes, students will have college holidays similar to school holidays. Our academic calendar often aligns closely with school holiday dates. The college year typically finishes at the beginning of July. - What kind of wellbeing or pastoral care does the college provide?
What kind of wellbeing or pastoral care does the college provide?
Buckinghamshire College Group can offer wellbeing support and pastoral care to our students. Our Student Services team can offer additional support including Counselling. - Where and how can I get food from the cafeteria?
Where and how can I get food from the cafeteria?
Each college campus has a cafeteria with seating, serving both hot and cold food. Hot meals are available from 12pm, and all cafeterias close at 2pm. You can pay by cash or card. If you previously received free school meals, Student Services can help you apply for support through our bursary scheme. If you qualify, your ID card will be loaded with a daily allowance to pay for food and drink. - Where can I go for quiet time during the college day?
Where can I go for quiet time during the college day?
Each campus features a learning centre, providing a calm and quiet environment where students can study, use computers and access various resources. Additionally, some students may be able to use the Inclusion Hub—a dedicated, quieter area where selected learners can receive extra support from a staff member. - Do students get a timetable at college? What does it typically look like?
Do students get a timetable at college? What does it typically look like?
Yes, students will receive a timetable when they start college. Timetables can vary for a number of reasons and will show the courses each student is enrolled in. For some students, this may include Maths and English alongside their chosen vocational course. The days and times students are expected to attend will also differ depending on their individual timetable. More detailed information will be provided after enrolment, particularly during the Start-Up Event held in September. Please refer to our Transition Pack as this has an example of our college timetables and how to read them. - Can I take part in enrichment activities at college?
Can I take part in enrichment activities at college?
Yes, of course! We offer a variety of enrichment activities at college. - Are students assigned a keyworker they can speak to for additional support?
Are students assigned a keyworker they can speak to for additional support?
Students with an EHCP depending on their need and with prior agreement may be allocated a keyworker when they attend college whether this is from an Inclusion Mentor or a SEND Advocate. We provide Quality First Teaching at Buckinghamshire College Group so all students will be supported by their tutors. - What financial support is available at college?
What financial support is available at college?
Financial support can be provided and this is through our Student Services department. Student Services can support with bursaries, and this is calculated on a joint household income basis. - Will I have to wear a college lanyard?
Will I have to wear a college lanyard?
Yes, you would need to wear a college lanyard whilst at college. This is to keep everyone safe at college. It ensures that all staff and students know that you are supposed to be on site. It is very important that you always wear this. - Do annual reviews still take place for me at college?
Do annual reviews still take place for me at college?
EHCP funded students will take part in an annual review at college. It is important for students to attend these meetings as we highly value student voice during the review process.
