"You might feel overwhelmed at the many questions you will get asked about your future learning, or career, but don't sweat it - many people now still don't know what they want to do, even when they have been working a long time - try jobs out, work out what you like and what you don't - and above all, enjoy it as you go. We spend many hours of our life at work so it is important you find something you feel engaged with so you can be yourself!"
- Why did you choose to study at Buckinghamshire College Group?
I chose to study at Buckinghamshire College Group because I’m very much a homebird and didn’t want to move away to university or take on significant personal debt. The College supported me by helping me access subsidised travel for my first course at Amersham College.
- Why did you choose this course and what were your ambitions at the time? I chose the courses, because at the time I felt a lot of pressure of what I wanted to do, what career I wanted, and what my path would be - and it felt overwhelming. So I decided to go with my gut and study the things I enjoyed.
- What did you enjoy the most about your course and your time at the College?
I enjoyed the flexibility and being in charge of my own schedule. It gave me the chance to express myself and meet like-minded people, helping to prepare me for the world of work. It was also great to be treated like an adult and take responsibility for my own learning. The teachers were all really down-to-earth, and the facilities were excellent – even back then!
- What experiences and skills from your course have been most valuable in your journey so far?
The photography learning I completed enabled me to thrive as a photographer for 11 years at RAF Halton - which I really enjoyed.
- How did your time at the College help prepare you for where you are today?
The College helped me flourish by allowing me to follow the things I enjoy, rather than being pushed towards something I didn’t. It taught me to be responsible for myself and showed me that if you put the effort in, you will reap the benefits.
I also still keep in touch with many of the friends I made during my time at both Colleges. Over time, it helped me realise that I enjoy helping people and working with the arts, which has become a passion of mine alongside my work.
