The T Level in Digital Software Development is an exciting new two-year, Level 3 study programme designed for students who have completed their GCSEs and Technical Awards at Key Stage 4. They offer a compelling alternative to A Levels and Apprenticeships, specifically for those interested in pursuing a career in software development.
This programme combines classroom theory, practical learning and a minimum of 315 hours of industry placement with an employer, ensuring students gain valuable real-world experience in the digital sector.
The Technical Qualification (TQ) is the core classroom-based component of the T Level, where students will engage with a curriculum crafted by industry experts. This curriculum covers essential topics such as programming, software development methodologies, and system design.
Throughout the two-year programme, students will acquire foundational knowledge that supports the digital industry and develop specialised skills necessary for entering skilled employment in software development roles. This includes learning various programming languages, understanding software lifecycle management, and mastering problem-solving techniques relevant to the field.

What will I learn?
Throughout the T Level Digital Software Development programme, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of various aspects of software development. Year 1:
- 2x Core Examinations
- 1x Employer Set Project - synoptic assessment
Year 2:
- 1x Occupations Specialism - synoptic assessment

Entry Requirements
To join this programme you will need 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 (or equivalent) including Maths and English.

Progression & Career Opportunities
Students can either go into industry, into an apprenticeship or onto university. This course supports progression to entry-level job opportunities in software design and development.
