This course is an introduction into Teaching or Training. It will provide you with an overview of the key stages within the Teaching and Learning cycle and offer a Teaching Toolkit for classroom practice. Participants do not need any teaching experience or access to teaching to study on this course, it will provide you with a clear stepping stone onto the Level 4 and 5 Teacher Training courses.

    Applicants need to be 19 years or over.

    There are no formal entry requirements for this course as it is an introduction to teaching. However, it is worth noting that if you chose to continue with teacher training studies, it is expected that you will have a minimum of a Level 3 qualification within your subject specialism, together with a Level 2 qualification in both English and Maths (or be working towards gaining these).

  • What will I learn?

    A range of topics linked to the Teaching and Learning Cycle will be covered, these include - Roles and Responsibilities, Professional Boundaries, Working with others, Ground rules, Legislation, Inclusive Practice, Planning for Learning, Assessment and Feedback, Record Keeping.

  • Progression

    Students can progress onto the Level 5 Cert Ed qualification which is a 2 year part time course if they meet the full entry requirements.

  • How am I assessed?

    There will be 6 written assignments which include designing leaflets and handouts, reflective essays and planning activities. These assignments make up the theory section of the course. You will also need to plan, deliver and evaluate a 15 minute microteach, together with observing other microteaches and providing constructive peer feedback. These activities will make up the practical section of the course.
