This course is suitable if you have a passion for creative and digital arts, games and app design, games character design and 2D and 3D animation, illustration, social media design and construction. Games designers are often responsible for the overall game concept, planning the story, characters, environments, rules and levels.
What will I learn?
You will be able to create cutting edge digital illustrations to make exciting concept art and engaging graphic narratives. The course will allow you to tackle motion graphics and video effects. You will also boost your web skills developing interactive applications and online games. In addition the course covers structured drawing development, research and analysis. You will also receive regular tutorials to support your work.
This course is focussed on enhancing your creative skills in the theory and practice of game production. You will learn how to plan, create concepts and structure games through practical workshops and assignments. The course allows you to build skills in pre-production, story development, multi-camera video and digital graphics for computer games. The second year will give you technical and creative skills including how sound is constructed and used within gaming. This will be developed through the planning and production of your own interactive game. Theory will provide you with research skills, giving you an understanding of target audiences and products related to the industry.

How will I be assessed?
The course will be completed over two years. Work is assessed by your tutors who will grade your work once it is complete. You will receive regular verbal and written feedback throughout the projects to help you aim for the highest grade possible.
You will need five GCSEs including English and Maths, and at least one relevant GCSE at grades 4 (C) or above.
Progression & Career Opportunities
There is potential for the qualification to prepare learners for appropriate direct entry to University or employment in a vocationally relevant professional/industry sector. employment in the vocational sector. Successful completion will provide access to a wide range of university courses or employment. Career Opportunities include: Games Designer, Games Developer, Graphic Designer, Concept Artist, Environment Artist.
You will need to pay a studio fee of £220 in Year 1 and £170 in Year 2, this will cover your drawing and illustration equipment and a portable hard drive (500 GB) and any trips, workshops etc that you will take part in during the year.
