This new two-year BTEC qualification is intended for learners who are wanting to progress directly into employment in the coaching and development sector however it is equivalent to three A Levels therefore allows learners the opportunity to progress into higher education to study a degree in sport, health or fitness.
The programme is aimed at students who are considering a career within sports coaching, performance analysis, health and fitness, sport therapy or sports psychology.

What will I learn?
During the first year you develop your understanding of why people take part in activity and understand physical and mental health, you will also be introduced to the range of career opportunities available within sport. Students will have the taught aspects of the qualification split with approximately 70% theory and 30% practical sessions.
The course will involve a good combination of both practical and academic elements and will enable you to develop a foundation of skills, knowledge and understanding that will provide you opportunity to progress directly into a career or prepare you to study for a degree in sport, health or fitness.

How will I be assessed?
The Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development has no external exam as you will be assessed through written assignments, presentations and practical assessments.

Entry Requirements
A minimum of four GCSEs at grade 4 (C) (or Level 2 BTEC qualifications at Merit) including Maths and English at grade 4 (C).

Progression & Career Opportunities
The sport coaching and development sector continues to grow and now has increasing influence within the sports and leisure industry, with gyms and health club members continuing to grow and many professional sports teams now employing a range of sport and exercise scientists within a lab and on the field of play.
Students who successfully complete this course will be awarded the Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development and students who achieve a DMM grade will have the opportunity to progress into higher education to study a degree in sport, health or fitness.

Students will be expected to purchase the college sports kit. Students will attend placements within a range of sport, health and fitness settings.
