We are thrilled to share the exciting news that Buckinghamshire College Group alumni Gemma Burnand has been nominated for Best Director at the Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase 2025 for her acclaimed short film London and Botswana.

The nomination celebrates Gemma’s exceptional talent and her powerful storytelling, which explores the cultural connection between two vibrant locations. Her film has already received praise for its emotional depth and visual strength, earning her a well-deserved place among the international talents being recognised at this prestigious event.

The Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase—an independent initiative held in conjunction with the world-renowned Cannes Film Festival—was created to promote inclusion by celebrating underrepresented filmmakers from across the globe.

Gemma’s nomination is not only a personal milestone but also a proud moment for Buckinghamshire College Group.

Gemma studied Creative Media at the College and has since gone on to build an impressive career in film, earning recognition for both her technical skill and her artistic voice. Her latest achievement demonstrates the incredible heights our alumni can reach with determination and passion.

We couldn’t be prouder of Gemma and look forward to following her continued success on the international stage.

Congratulations, Gemma!
