Our Media students have collaborated with Buckinghamshire SENDIAS on an inspiring real-world project, creating a series of films and digital resources designed to support young people, particularly around mental health and accessing services.
Students were involved in every stage of the creative process, from developing ideas and writing scripts to filming, editing and responding to client feedback. Through the project, they gained invaluable experience working with a professional organisation, and their work has now been published and is actively being used to support young people across Buckinghamshire.
A key strength of the project was its inclusive approach. Students contributed across all stages of production, from pre-production and filming to acting and reviewing content. Importantly, many of those involved were part of the audience the resources were designed to support, helping to ensure the final content feels authentic, relatable and genuinely useful.
The finished films have received excellent feedback and were showcased at the SENDIAS Big Meet stakeholder event. Comments included:

“Brilliant video – well done!”
“That’s the first time I’ve seen the finished health video – I thought it was really excellent.”
“Wow… I am so impressed… it is brilliant.”
Students were also invited to present their work at the event, sharing their experiences and creative journey with a professional audience.
The project provided meaningful work experience opportunities, particularly for students Joel and Neel, who took on responsibilities beyond the original brief. Working closely with Buckinghamshire SENDIAS, they:
- Designed a digital screen (digiscreen) asset for use in GP surgeries and health centres
- Incorporated branding, logos and key service information
- Ensured the content was accessible and easy to understand
- Presented their ideas directly to the SENDIAS team
Their work has the potential to be rolled out more widely across the county.
The success of the project has already sparked discussions about expanding this approach, with opportunities for more student-led content creation across SENDIAS services in the future.
The overall response from Buckinghamshire SENDIAS has been overwhelmingly positive. Sarah Smith, Team Leader for Buckinghamshire SENDIAS, described the project as a career highlight, reflecting the impact of the collaboration and the quality of the students' work.
