College Counsellor

The College runs a counselling service where students can make appointments to discuss issues in a confidential and supportive environment with one of the professionally qualified College counsellors.

You can talk to us

Everyone feels down sometimes, but talking can really help. If you are a student enrolled at Bucks College Group, Student Services can offer you a free counselling service.

Worried about COVID-19?

We want our students to be and feel safe even if you're learning remotely. For some guidance and reassurance, visit Student Minds.

What is counselling?

Counselling is a type of talking therapy which aims to help you understand your thoughts and feelings. This will be an opportunity to talk about anything that’s troubling you and explore your thoughts and feelings.

What sorts of things could I talk about?

  • Feeling sad, unhappy or lonely
  • Feeling like you’ve lost your sense of purpose or direction
  • Depression and/or anxiety
  • Stress about studying, exams or work
  • Bullying or abuse
  • Grief and bereavement
  • Family or relationship issues
  • Sexuality or gender
  • Self-harm
  • Suicidal thoughts or feelings

Whatever’s troubling you, counselling can help you understand yourself and enable you to develop effective coping strategies.

Will everything I say be confidential?

Everything you say will be treated confidentially. We will only ever share what you say with another person if we are worried that you and/or another young person may be at risk. Your counsellor will explain our confidentiality policy to you at your first session.

Why is confidentiality so important?

In order for young people to feel completely safe and trust the counsellor  to help them with their concerns, it is essential for confidentiality to be  maintained.  Confidentiality also supports young people when they want to change their behaviour or be completely honest about some of the more difficult feelings in life, such as sadness, anxiety, fear, shame or  anger.

How much does it cost?

The counselling sessions won’t cost you anything as long as you are a registered student at Buckinghamshire College Group

How do I make an appointment?

  1. VisitingStudent Services and asking themto make a referral on your behalf.
  2. Ask your tutor to make a referral on your behalf.

What if a student wants to stop coming to counselling?

You are free to end counselling at any time.  Please talk to your counsellor if you feel counselling isn’t working for you.
