To join this programme you will need 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 (or equivalent) including Maths and English.

In the first year of the T Level Accounting programme at Buckinghamshire College Group, students build a strong foundation in core business and financial principles, preparing for a future in the dynamic world of finance.

You’ll explore key topics such as:

• Business and Commercial Awareness – Understand how organisations operate, the role of finance in decision-making, and the impact of external factors on business performance.

• Fundamentals of Accounting – Learn the principles of double-entry bookkeeping, financial documentation, and how to process transactions accurately.

• Ethics and Professionalism – Develop an understanding of ethical standards and professional conduct expected in the financial sector.

• Digital and Data Skills – Gain confidence using accounting software and digital tools to manage financial data and produce reports.

• Communication and Teamwork – Strengthen your ability to work collaboratively and communicate financial information clearly.

Alongside classroom learning, you’ll complete an industry placement (around 45 days), giving you hands-on experience in a real accounting environment. This practical exposure helps you apply your learning, build confidence, and develop the skills employers value most.

By the end of Year 1, you’ll be well-prepared to progress into more advanced accounting topics in Year 2 and take your next step toward a career in finance, an apprenticeship, or further study.

The T Level in Accounting opens doors to a wide range of exciting career and study options. Upon completion, students are well-prepared to step into entry-level roles in finance, such as accounts assistant, finance administrator, or bookkeeper. The course also provides a strong foundation for progressing to higher-level qualifications like the AAT Level 3 and Level 4 Diplomas, or even a degree in accounting, finance, or business.

Alternatively, students can choose to continue their journey through a professional apprenticeship, such as the Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship, gaining further qualifications while earning and working in the industry.

Students are assessed through a combination of exams, coursework, and an employer-set project, designed to reflect real-world accounting tasks and challenges.

Throughout the year, learners complete formative assessments such as homework, in-class tasks, and practical exercises to build their understanding and track progress.

A key part of the assessment is the Employer-Set Project, which involves working on a controlled assignment over approximately two weeks. This includes research, planning, data analysis, and presenting findings—mirroring the kind of work expected in professional accounting roles.

In addition, students sit external exams that test their knowledge of core accounting principles, business context, and digital skills. These exams are set and marked by the awarding body to ensure national consistency.

Together, these assessments ensure students are not only academically prepared but also equipped with the practical and professional skills needed for the workplace.
