- What will I learn?
Throughout this programme, you will build a deep understanding of scientific principles and their realworld applications in forensic and criminal investigations. You’ll start by mastering core science concepts and practical laboratory techniques, then progress to advanced investigative skills such as forensic evidence collection, crime scene analysis, and environmental forensics.
Specialist units will introduce you to criminology, criminal procedures, and the psychology behind criminal behaviour, while exploring areas like human physiology, fire investigation, and traffic collision reconstruction.
By combining theory with hands-on practice, you’ll develop the analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills essential for careers in forensic science, policing, and related fields
- How am I assessed?
Assessment for this programme is designed to reflect real-world forensic practice. You will complete a range of coursework assignments across all units, including practical investigations, written reports, and case studies.
In addition, there will be two externally assessed exams each year, testing your understanding of core scientific principles and investigative skills. This balanced approach ensures you develop both theoretical knowledge and practical competence, preparing you for progression to higher education, apprenticeships, or employment in the forensic sector.
Level 3 Study Programme: Forensic & Criminal Investigation
Our Level 3 Forensic and Criminal Investigation Study Programme is designed to give you a strong foundation in forensic science and investigative techniques. Offered as a full time course - extended programme, it provides the knowledge and practical skills needed to progress to higher education, an apprenticeship, or entry-level employment within the forensic sector.
You’ll explore core scientific principles alongside specialist forensic topics, gaining hands-on experience in crime scene analysis, evidence handling, and laboratory procedures. This programme is ideal for students who are passionate about science and want to apply it in real-world criminal investigations.
