Buckinghamshire College Group is proud to have partnered with Leap, Stoke Mandeville Stadium, and Buckinghamshire Skills Hub to support the delivery of the Fit for the Future: Leisure Careers pilot programme. This dynamic initiative was designed to introduce students in Aylesbury to the wide-ranging career opportunities available within the leisure sector.
Developed through the Buckinghamshire Local Skills Accountability Board, the programme offered students a unique opportunity to explore the leisure industry through a series of engaging, hands-on activities. These experiences were carefully designed to build confidence, develop practical skills, and spark interest in the diverse roles that exist across the sector.
Throughout the programme, students took part in a variety of sessions that combined physical activity with career development. From CV writing workshops to wheelchair basketball, each activity was aimed at helping students connect their personal interests with potential career pathways. The programme also placed a strong emphasis on promoting equity and representation, ensuring that all participants felt empowered to explore opportunities in leisure, regardless of background or ability.
The impact of the pilot was clear. Students left with a stronger sense of their own employability, a deeper understanding of the leisure industry, and a renewed enthusiasm for their future career prospects. The programme not only helped to raise aspirations but also provided real-world experience that will support students as they take their next steps.
