- What will I learn?
Learners study the Level 2 Diploma in Maintenance Operations (City & Guilds) and develop practical skills including:
Health and safety on site and in workshops Basic plumbing and drainage Painting, decorating and surface preparation Tiling and plaster repairs |Carpentry and general repairs Using tools and equipment safely Understanding sustainability and efficient working practices
Most learning takes place in workshops, supported by classroom sessions to help learners understand the theory behind what they are doing.

- Progression
After completing the course, learners can progress to:
Specialist Level 2 construction courses (e.g. plumbing, carpentry or electrical) A Property Maintenance Operative apprenticeship Employment in entry-level roles such as: Property or estates maintenance assistant, facilities or housing maintenance roles, kitchen or bathroom fitting support.
The course is designed with progression in mind, helping learners move confidently into work, training or further study.
- How am I assessed?
Progress and achievement is recorded throughout the year via practical assessments, theory assessments, external tests and a practical synoptic assignment.

Level 2 Study Programme: Maintenance Operations
A practical course for learners who enjoy hands-on work and want real career options. This course is ideal for young people who like learning by doing and want to build practical skills for the world of work. The Level 2 Property Maintenance Study Programme helps learners develop confidence, independence and employability while working towards a recognised qualification. Learners will gain experience across a range of trades, preparing them for jobs in property maintenance, housing and estates – or for progression onto apprenticeships or further construction courses. A full study programme – not just a course. All learners aged 16–18 complete a full study programme, which includes:
English and maths (GCSE or Functional Skills, if not achieved a grade 4) Weekly tutorials (WISPA) focusing on wellbeing, inclusion, sustainability, professionalism and ambitious future goals Weekly course leader tutorials focusing on target setting, progress tracking and planning next steps Work experience or industry-related projects, helping learners understand real working environments Careers advice and support, including help with CVs, interviews and next steps
Learners are supported by a Course Leader and a Progress Coach, who work closely with them to help them stay on track.
