Level 3 Study Programme: Graphic Design & Illustration

To join this programme you will need 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 (or equivalent) including Maths and/or English.

• Visual Communication in Art and Design

On this course, you will build the creative and technical skills needed for a career in graphic design and illustration. You will explore how to generate ideas, develop concepts and turn them into strong visual outcomes using both traditional and digital techniques.

You will learn how to communicate messages through design, using colour, typography and imagery effectively, while developing your drawing and visual recording skills. You will also gain experience of the full design process, from initial ideas through to final pieces, and create a portfolio that showcases your work and prepares you for your next step.

In previous years, students on this pathway have won national awards for their designs working with The Royal Opera House, the Southbank Centre, BMW, MTV, Bank of New York Mellon Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race Competition, Starpack National Packing Awards and Cartoon Network

This course has a 98% success rate – 10% above the National Average for students doing this type of course and last year over 85% of students went on to study at Higher Education level at some of the top Universities in the country. Many students go on to have a career as a Graphic Designer in industries such as publishing, marketing and advertising, illustration, packaging and product design.

Graphic Design is part of the Art & Design portfolio at Amersham Campus. The area has achieved ‘outstanding’ status 5 times and has always been positively recognised as a key player in the creative industries among its peers.

All assessment, including final assessment, is based on coursework.
