Former College student and Southampton Solent University graduate Mat Scott has been chosen to represent some of the finest emerging visual artists for the Platform Graduate Award 2019.
Mat, who studied photography at the Amersham campus and graduated with a BA (Hons) Photography at University, will have his work exhibited at Aspex gallery in Portsmouth, one of four galleries hosting work from 23 graduates across 14 universities, from October 4th 2019 to January 2020.
“I am extremely humbled and ecstatic to have been chosen to be a part of the exhibition with ex-graduates,” explained Mat, 21. I never imagined I would get to see my own work in a gallery space on a wall for the public to see – but it’s an amazing experience and this will be my third exhibition.”
I learned so much at college which has set me up for life,” said Matt. “I had a great relationship with tutor Paul Smith and the photo technician who both really helped me to understand photography processes. Being able to use the dark room to develop film and print off your work gave me invaluable knowledge that is all paying off. I’m now working as a studio technician for print and processing company Hempstead May in London.”
I loved my time at college and I am still in contact with several friends from the course who all say what they learnt really helped to get them established in the world of photography and print. It is also an amazing profession with a wide array of jobs - not just as a photographer - so it’s not as narrow a field as some people might think.
